Google delays the launch of its next-generation AI chatbot Gemini until next year

According to the most recent details emerging, Google has decided to hold off on releasing Gemini, its next-generation AI chatbot, until the following year.

Notably, Google revealed Gemini at I/O 2023 as its next-generation foundation model, and it was scheduled to launch the following week. But Gemini won’t be available until January 2024.

Google claims that Gemini is their most potent conversational AI to date. The Information has reported that next week, this multimodal AI chatbot was scheduled to make an appearance at several events in California, New York, and Washington, D.C., where lawmakers and other dignitaries were anticipated to be in attendance.

How Google incorporates Gemini into its Google services will be intriguing to watch.

However, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, chose to postpone the Gemini launch after doing some internal study. It is reported that Google discovered certain non-English inquiries were not consistently handled by the AI. The lack of global language support in Gemini has delayed its deployment, as it is one of the primary requirements for Google to help it meet standards such as OpenAI’s GPT-4.

Gemini also outperformed Chat GPT-4 in individual tests because it uses more computing power than the latter. Google’s CEO said last November:

“The company is focused on launching Gemini 1.0 as quickly as possible to ensure competitiveness and modernity, and we will build on this.”Sissy Xiao, Google vice president and manager of Bard and Google Assistant, explained the feat of the Gemini AI chatbot with an example.

“I’ve seen some pretty amazing things. Like, If I’m trying to bake a cake, draw me 3 pictures of the steps to how to ice a three-layer cake, and Gemini will create those images. These are completely novel pictures, not just pictures from the internet.“
